Sacos school swimming championship - Nine records tumble |30 October 2015

Nine records were beaten at last week’s Sacos-sponsored school swimming championship, which brought together swimmers from schools from Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

Three of the nine new times now belong to the young Kyle Fred of Pointe Larue primary school as he showed just how much potential he presents to the future of Seychelles swimming.

His first record performance came in the 7-9 years old 25m freestyle event where he touched the board at 16.11 seconds to erase Joshua Millers’ previous time of 16.22 set in 2013.

He then went on to erase Lenel Ah-Wan’s time of 19.60 seconds in the 7-9 years 25m backstroke with a time of 19.48 seconds.

Fred’s third record came in the 7-9 years 25m butterfly and his time of 18.36 seconds pushed Lenel Ah-Wan’s 18.40 seconds performance out of the record books.

The other records came from Independent School’s Joshua Miller who set a new record in the 10-11 years 50m breaststroke with a time of 41.85 seconds. The previous record of 45.25 seconds belonged to Hayden Ah-Wan.

Aisha Khan of Plaisance primary school bettered Anisha Payet’s old female 10-11 years old 50m backstroke record of 39.97 seconds set in 2009 by clocking 39.26 seconds.

Therese Soukup of Independent School was the other record setter as she made the 12-13 years old 50m freestyle record hers with time of 29.38 seconds to erase Felicity Passon’s previous time of 29.83 seconds.

She did manage to set another new record, this time in the 12-13 years old 50m backstroke as she stopped the clock at 33.86 seconds to obliterate Nicole Grasselli Barni’s previous record time of 35.26 seconds.

Simon Bachmann of the French School was also among the records as he finished the 16+ years 50m backstroke in 30.12 seconds for a new school record, beating Adam Viktora’s previous time of 30.40 seconds.

The final record of the day came in the 12-13 years old 4x50 freestyle relay event where the Independent School finished with a time of 2 minutes 14.22 seconds (2:14.22) to erase the 10-year-old record of 2:16.33 set back in 2005 by the International school.
