Culinary prospects for Seychellois on board Seypec tankers |15 October 2015

The Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec) Limited has embarked on a project to expand the recruitment pool of qualified cooks to work on board Seychelles owned tankers.

As part of the company’s efforts to recruit and obtain qualified young Seychellois interested in taking up a career at sea, Seypec in collaboration with the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) had begun preliminary discussions for greater partnership.

This follows the recent visit of a group of STA students for a familiarisation session held at Seypec House at the New Port on Monday this week. The aim was to expose the students to information on various culinary prospects offered by Seypec in the seafaring field.

The session highlighted the various opportunities available for Seychellois youths to become a qualified chief cook on board Seypec tankers.

While at Seypec the STA students attended a tailored presentation outlining the requirements to be considered for the Seypec programme as well as incentives and benefits Seypec has to offer those interested in venturing in such career paths.

The STA students also had a chance to get a first hand view of life on a tanker through an onsite tour on board MT Seychelles Paradise. During the tour on board students visited key areas such as the galley, mess room, cabins and bridge while interacting with crew members on board for clarifications and details of their experience in seafaring.

Over the years, Seypec has been engaged in intensive recruitment and capacity building programmes to ensure quality candidates are recruited hence continuously maintaining and raising standards of the service offered to its customers.
