EDUTech Seychelles 2015 - Competition winners rewarded |29 September 2015

As part of EDUTech Seychelles 2015 various activities and competitions were organised to further consolidate the importance and need for technology in the classroom.

The principal secretary for early childhood, primary and secondary education Merida Delcy has rewarded winners who responded to the competition challenge.

This took place during a short ceremony at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles (ICCS) on Saturday afternoon.

Gerlca Cadence won first place in the e-safety screensaver competition in the primary 1 to primary 3 category. The aim of this competition was to increase awareness of the numerous pit-falls of using the internet, encourage and promote good on-line practices. Myriam Henri came in second followed by Arielah Port-Louis in third place.

In the primary 4 to primary 6 category the students had to create a digital game with Scratch based on the national theme ‘I love Seychelles’. The first prize in this category was awarded to Cloe Louis while Leonard Azemia came in second and in the third place was Cloe Azemia.

As a very happy Cloe Louis clinched her new laptop, she said that she joined the competition after she learned that the reward would be a laptop.

Henadelle Suzette clinched first prize in the competition for secondary 1 to secondary 3, where the students had to create an exciting video to show off all the historical and geographical attractions in their district.

Second place in this category went to Emico Leon.

In the secondary 4 to secondary 5 category, Shanah Mathiot won the first prize while Guyan Anthony came in second position. In this category the students were asked to create a video to promote on-line safety awareness demonstrating their presenting, video making and editing skills.

The competition for post-secondary institutions did not receive entries from the post-secondary students. The aim was to come up with a design for a robot with an amazing animal ability.

However, an S4 student from Anse Royale school, Yannick Mondelly, was brave enough to attempt an entry in this category and he came up with a design for a robot dog.

He received a special prize for his special effort in this category.

He thanked all those who supported him and said that although he felt displeased with the lack of participation in the category, he looks forwards for the next contest and hopes he gets more competition next time.

Recognition was also given to teachers and education officers who took part in the different training opportunities on ICT that have been made available during the course of this year.

A group of Notesmaster Leader Teachers received their certificates and the primary and secondary teachers who took part in the ‘I love my school’ competition were rewarded.

In the primary teachers category, Mont Fleuri school came first while Anse Etoile was second and Baie Lazare third.

Meanwhile Plaisance school won the secondary teachers category, with Belonie school in second position and English River third.

In her address PS Delcy said: “Through strengthening the partnership with the different stakeholders we can offer more opportunities for continuous professional development and capacity building for teachers and more opportunities to foster students’ creative ICT skills and enhance the use of ICT in the education transformation process.”

She thanked the partners who have supported EDUTech Seychelles this year and also the students and teachers for their effort.

She also congratulated the winners and looks forward to even more projects in the next competitions.

Present during the ceremony were ministry officials, Microsoft partners, teachers among other guests.
