11th All-Africa Games - Seychelles finish winless in men’s volleyball |14 September 2015

Dugasse and Benstrong will both be in action this week

The Seychelles male volleyball team will return to Seychelles without a single win at the All-Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

Seychelles had already been eliminated before they met Cameroon in the final group B game on Saturday, but found themselves finishing at the foot of the table without a win when they lost 1-3 (22-25, 25-23, 15-25, 20-25) to Cameroon. Seychelles therefore finished at the bottom of their group which was won by Algeria, followed by Rwanda.

The semi-finals were played late yesterday, where Algeria met Egypt and Rwanda played Congo Brazzaville.

The men’s poor results are in stark contrast to that of our ladies team who have managed to get to the semi-finals and were due to play against Cameroon yesterday for a spot in the final. The other semi-final was between Egypt and Kenya.

Out men’s basketball team are also not doing well at these games and on Saturday they lost their fourth game in a row to be out of contention for a medal. Seychelles are in Pool A, where they are competing alongside Gabon, Angola, Egypt and Congo Brazzaville.

Seychelles lost the opening match 43-69 against Congo, and followed that up with a 48-78 loss to Egypt. Their third game also ended in defeat, this time on a 54-71 score to Gabon, before losing their final group game 47-93 to Angola.

The All-Africa Games is still in full swing, where yesterday saw the start of the athletics events, while his week will also see our judoka Dominic Dugasse and table tennis player Aniessa Benstrong compete at the games.
