Coached by Rodney Choisy, the country’s women’s team beat the Maldives 4-1 on Sunday and are to play Mayotte in their second game today at the Stade Michel Volnay.
A win will put them at the top of group A and they will play the runners-up of pool B in the semifinal.
Madagascar are the favourites to win pool B after beating Mauritius 5-0 in their first match and edging hosts Reunion 8-7 in a penalty shootout after the score had remained tied at 2-2 at the end of normal time.
