STC first workplace to adopt SEYx30 programme |27 May 2015

The Seychelles Trading Company (STC) has become the first workplace to adopt the SEYx30 programme among its staff.

The programme, which has already been successfully established in various schools across the country, encourages a healthier lifestyle through 30 minutes of exercise everyday.

The launch of the programme at the STC took place yesterday afternoon at the Club 55, where among those present were the principal secretary for youth, Alain Volcère, STC’s chief executive Veronique Laporte, Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) chief executive Vicky Van Der Westhuizen and staff of the STC.

Stephanie Felix, the press relations officer at the STC, said they saw it important to implement the programme at their establishment as they want to keep their workforce healthy and to also be the healthiest workforce in Seychelles.

The launch of the SeyX30 programme was not the only event on the agenda yesterday afternoon as STC also decided to donate a number of first aid kits and weighing scales which will be use by the Pointe Larue secondary school. It was their physical education teacher Roger Labonte who accepted the donation from the STC.

The ceremony was also attended by Mr Seychelles 2014, Ziad Al Adou Meckdachi, who addressed those in attendance on the importance of exercise towards the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and its importance in helping to reduce stress and thus increasing productivity in the workplace.

Naturopath Pascal Chang-Leng also addressed the STC staff, explaining how exercise is more effective when healthy nutrition is also added.

Naturopathy is a form of alternative medicine employing a wide array of "natural" treatments, including homeopathy, herbalism, and acupuncture, as well as diet and lifestyle counselling.
After the ceremony, the STC staff proceeded to give an aerobics demonstration.
