Brierley finishes second in Egypt
Simon Brierley did Seychelles proud by coming out second in the duathlon at the African Triathlon Union (ATU) Triathlon/Duathlon African Championships in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
Another of Seychelles’ professional triathletes, Brierley finished the race in a time of 55 minutes 44 seconds (55:44) on Friday 8, May. The winner was Tunisia’s Homrani Wajdi in 53:34 with Egypt’s Mohamed Rabie getting the bronze medal.
The duathlon was initially a 5km run followed by a 20km bike ride and ending in a 2.5km run.
At the age of 36 Brierley then went on to represent Seychelles in Sunday’s ATU Africa’s Triathlon Championships at the same venue and finished 12th in a time of 2h11:12.
South Africa took all podium places in the triathlon with winner Henri Schoeman covering the 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run in a time of 1h52:17.
