Anse Boileau school clinches Maths and Science quiz prizes |11 November 2014
Primary 6 pupils from Anse Boileau are the lucky winners of the annual Maths and Science quiz competition organised and hosted by the same district’s secondary school on Saturday.
The head of the Department of Maths and Science at the Anse Boileau secondary, K.C Verghese, said eight of the 10 primary schools registered for the daylong competition turned up for the event.
It was in the presence of several officials from the Ministry of Education, parents, school management and council members as well as representatives of the Indian Association that teams from the different primary schools battled it out in different classrooms all throughout the day.
The pupils had to answer questions on various topics taught at primary level in both mathematics and science subjects.
In the end it was a team from primary 6 from Anse Boileau made up of Faisa Edmond, Marie-Christine Ah Kong, Neddy Petrousse, and Rahim Adrienne who took the battle on its final leg facing off a much younger team from Plaisance who defiantly stood up to the challenge.
The Plaisance team of primary 5 pupils made up of Andrea Louise, Tyrell Servina, Jeremie Nourice and Jayant Gondariya was in the end the runner up as their opponent proved their strength.
Daniel Bristol, the Plaisance team’s coordinator, said he is very happy with the pupils who have displayed their knowledge of the two subjects but have unfortunately lost to Anse Boileau.
“But we will be there next year,” Mr Bristol pointed out.
For her part Anacelle Vidot, Maths and Science coordinator at the Anse Boileau school, also joined her pupils to express their joy of winning.
She said the pupils have shown great enthusiasm and were eager to win all along.
Ina Felix, curriculum development officer for Mathematics in the education ministry said the initiative of the Anse Boileau secondary school is another effort to motivate and encourage pupils to be interested in Maths and Science.
The Indian Association which adopted the Anse Boileau school some time back, sponsored all the trophies and prizes for the competition.
Nandu Raghvani, a representative of the Indian Association, said it is always a pleasure to sponsor educational initiatives.
“We congratulate the wining team but all the pupils here today are winners and we are happy to sponsor and support such activities and we will continue to do so,” said MrRaghvani.
