International, Independent schools dominate
Swimmers from International School Seychelles and Independent School dominated the 32nd Sacos-sponsored schools championship held yesterday at the Roche Caïman pools.
Students from 25 primary, secondary and post-secondary schools from across the country took part in the competition in which swimmers competed in events which included freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle relay.
International School won six of the 10 shields while Independent School claimed the other four.
In the boys’ 7-9 years old category, Independent School was the winner with 82 points, followed by Plaisance with 25 points and Mont Fleuri with 4. For the girls, it was International School who came out first with 56 points, Independent School was second with 42 points, followed by Plaisance with six points.
The boys’ 10-11 years category saw Independent School dominate as it amassed 71 points, compared to second-placed Ecole Française’s 13 points. Pointe Larue finished with 11 points.
Independent School also dominated the girls’ 10-11 years category as it achieved 68 points, followed by International School with 21. Third place went to Plaisance with 12 points.
In the 12-13 years old category for boys, again Independent School was the winner with a total of 107 points, while second placed International School managed 37 points. Plaisance finished with 28 points. As for the girls, it was International School that was the winner with 75 points, followed closely by Independent School with 60 points and Ecole Française with 23 points.
International School was the winner of both the boys’ and girls’ titles in the 14-15 years category. It finished with 93 points to win the boys’ class ahead of Independent School (36 points) and Plaisance (34 points). For the girls, International School finished with 114 points to win ahead of Independent School who managed 17 points. Third position went to Plaisance with 14 points.
The final age category was 16 years and above and International School again won both the girls’ and boys’ crowns. For the boys, it managed to get 91 points to finish ahead of the School of Advanced Level Studies who got 39 points. The School of Business Studies and Accounting was third with 16 points.
For the boys, it won 78 points, followed by Independent School with 36 points and Plaisance with 32 points.
The race winners were awarded medal, while the winning schools were each presented with a shield.
In addition, two national records were broken, but are yet to be homologated by the Seychelles Swimming Association (SSA).
