Districts’ disable support group celebrates 15th birthday |08 September 2014

The Association of the districts’ disable support group of Seychelles celebrated its 15th anniversary of existence in a special celebration held at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay hotel on Friday night.

Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Minister Vincent Meriton, community development and sports principal secretary Denis Rose, and community development special advisor Dan Frichot joined the chairperson of the association Celine Fanchette, members of the association, parents and persons with disability for the gathering.

The ceremony was organised in partnership with the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay and it started with blessing by Father Collin Underwood from the Roman Catholic church.

During the ceremony, Mrs Fanchette gave a brief summary of the different activities the association has organised over the past 15 years and its successes.

Addressing the guests Minister Meriton said: “Today we are here to mark 15 years of the association’s existence. 15 years is not 15 days. These 15 years reflect the vocation and love of the members to support our people living with a disability.”

“I would like to thank the association for the hard work in making the society recognise the necessity and the needs of people living with a disability. There are demands that have already been put forward to the partners concerned such as the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation that the buses become disabled friendly,” Minister Meriton added.

The association took the opportunity to present Irene Aglaé with a token for being with the association from day one till now.
There were different performances by people living with disability and everyone joined Andy Labrosse in singing the association’s theme song entitled Nou dezabilite i nou abilite.

A cake was cut to mark the 15th anniversary of the association and the night continued with a dinner before guests could mingle together and dance the night away.
