Airtel Seychelles contributes towards environment’s protection and conservation |08 September 2014

Airtel Seychelles recently partnered with the Ministry of Environment and Energy to plant over 150 local endemic lantannyen fey at the Morne Blanc National Park.

With almost half of its land territory dedicated as protected areas and with two Unesco world heritage sites under its jurisdiction, Seychelles has brought the issue of conservation and environmental protection close to the hearts and minds of its people. It was with this reality in mind and of its corporate social responsibility to remain in step with the community that Airtel decided to join forces with the ministry.

It all started at the tea plantation with some early ‘Airtel’ birds especially those who had never visited that part of the island where Seychelles’ tea is grown.

Some loyal CSR active staff including expatriate workers and their families took part in the activity which also served as an educational opportunity for them. Armed with hoes, spades and high spirit, the team with the help of Ministry of Environment and Environment staff dug the holes needed and planted the palms, taking utmost care not to be stung by the thorns. They discovered and learned how to appreciate the importance of preserving the bio-diversity which has made the country such an attraction to tourists.

Airtel Seychelles CSR coordinator Marie Pierre Volcere said the activity was well worth and the staff was glad for the opportunity to help make a difference. She reiterated the company’s commitment to continue helping the Seychelles environmental programmes.
