Football - St Louis Suns fan club launched |12 August 2014
The St Louis Suns Football Club has been given a welcome boost for the rest of the season as their new fan club was launched on Saturday in a small ceremony held at the St Louis community centre.
The launch ceremony was attended by district administrator Rachel Joseph along with members of the team’s management, coaches and players.
In his address to those in attendance, the fan club’s chairman Gerry Sopha said the aim of the fan club is to help the football club to function as well as to help boost the club’s performance through the support of the fans.
He added that there was a St Louis Suns fan club previously, but as it was not fulfilling its function, he decided it was time to start afresh.
Those who have been following sports lately will recall that Mr Sopha is also the chairman of the Arsenal fan club which was launched a little earlier this year.
When asked about those two responsibilities, Mr Sopha replied: “I do feel that it is a lot of responsibility, but I am confident that I can handle it. I do feel that running the St Louis Suns fan club will need more energy as it is local and thus needs more attention.”
He added that they want to reach out to the players themselves in a bid to boost club morale and get the team to renew with the glory days of the old side of the regionalisation era.
The members of the fan club’s executive committee are Gerry Sopha (chairman), Norris Maria (vice-chairman), Leeroy Sopha (secretary), Holbert Jean (treasurer), Daniel Victor, Marylene Mahoune, Hughes Arnephy, Pierre Barreau, Terrence Bacco, Henry Gamatis and Antoine Poris (ordinary members).
It seems that launching football fan clubs is becoming a trend lately as the weekend also saw the launch of the Chelsea FC fan club as well as the Liverpool FC fan club.
It is hoped that supporters of local football will follow the same path and try working towards getting football fans to once again make their way back into the stadiums for local football matches.
