Cycling - Alphonse takes second win of season |03 May 2014
Peter Alphonse maintained his good start to the 2014 cycling season as he took his second win of the year in race number five held on Labour Day – May 1.
Alphonse, who had previously tasted victory in race number two, was among the favourites at the start of Thursday's race and did not disappoint in the 68.4km road race.
The Life Cycle club rider was in a league of his own as he finished the race 1 minute 31 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. His winning time was 2 hours 1 minute 33 seconds (2h01:33).
The battle for second place was a close-run thing as five cyclists finished with the same time – 2h03:04 – but second and third places went to Bertrand Lesperance and Ricky Rosalie.
Life Cycle were the fastest team as they recorded a combined time of 6h07:41, way ahead of second placed Classic Design whose time was 6h24:53.
Meanwhile, after picking up a maximum 60 points awarded for first place, Alphonse now leads the overall standings with 167 points, ahead of Ahmad Arissol who has 107 points, while reigning cyclist of the year Dominic Arissol has 80.
