Kilindo stopped a bout away from quarterfinals
Keven Kilindo was a bout away from reaching the quarterfinals of the 18th Aiba Youth World Boxing Championships taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria when he was stopped.
Fighting in the red corner against Korean Kim Jinnyong, Kilindo lost his second-round bout on a 3-0 score after all three judges scored Sunday’s 91kg category fight in the Korean’s favour – 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26.
A win would have put Kilindo in the quarterfinals and coach Jerry Legras described his fight as “very good” adding that “Keven is a talented young boxer”.
Kilindo made a good start in the championships by winning his first fight 3-0 against Jahsaiah Pomare of New Zealand on Thursday April 17.
Seychelles’ other fighter in Sofia, Lorenzo Bonne, showcased his boxing prowess against a formidable opponent but still lost on points to Cuban Alain Limonta in the 60kg category.
The 18th Aiba Youth World Boxing Championships will grant tickets for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China, from August 16-28.
Bonne and Kilindo trained in Sofia from late March ahead of the 18th Aiba Youth World Boxing Championships. The Aiba ‘Road to Sofia’ training camp was held from March 26 to April 9 and involved 60 boxers (48 men and 12 women) and 18 coaches from 31 countries.
