Swimming: SSA series underway |02 April 2014
Ninety-three swimmers took part on Friday March 21 at the Roche Caïman pools in the first races of the Seychelles Swimming Association (SSA) series competition.
Sponsored by the SSA, the competition comprises eight series and races will be held over a five-month period.
Male and female swimmers compete in four age groups – 9 years and under, 10-11 years, 12-13 years, and 14 years and over.
They will take part in all four strokes – freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke – and over three distances – 50m, 100m and 200m.
Competitors will be awarded points, starting with 20 points for first place, 18 for second, 16 for third, 14 for fourth, 12 for fifth, 10 for sixth, 9 for seventh, 8 for eighth, 7 for ninth, 6 for 10th, 5 for 11th, 4 for 12th, 3 for 13th, 2 for 14th and 1 for 15th and any other finish.
Swimmers who break a record are given two bonus points.
The points earned by each swimmer throughout the series are added up at the end of the competition to decide the category winners.
This competition serves to motivate and encourage young swimmers to take part. This helps the association to follow the progression of the swimmers during the year.
Swimmers training under various programmes within the SSA structure took part.
A good number of officials came forward to help with the competition and the association would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their time and contribution.
The association is calling on anyone who can help with officiating during competitions to contact the SAA on ssa@seychelles.net or 4761231 or 4671215
