FOOTBALL: Federation to expand second division |29 January 2014

The Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) has decided to expand the second division to 10 teams for the 2014 season.

SFF secretary general Jemmy Adela told Sports Nation that at present there are only eight teams in the second division after the closure of SMB who have joined forces with first division club Northern Dynamo.

As a result the federation has decided to organise a round robin tournament involving the third, fourth and fifth placed teams in the third division at the end of 2013. Therefore the teams who will take part in this competition will be Perseverance, Baie Lazare and Victoria City formerly known as Real Boys.

The competition expects to take place in February before the 2014 season officially opens with the President’s Cup between St Michel and Côte d’Or on February 22, 2014.

The sides highlighted will compete for a spot in the second division. The top two teams will be promoted along with champions Rude Boyz and Beau Vallon who beat second division side Mont Buxton in the playoffs.

The SFF will this year field an under-17 team in the second division. They are preparing for the African Under-17 Champion in Niger in 2015.
