Football:30 teams register for new 2014 season SMB out |15 January 2014

Before the start of each new football season teams usually go through a lot of changes and so often new ones are formed and they join the lowest division.

This year 30 teams will make up the three divisions. Of the 30 teams three have just registered and will play in the Barclays league division three while the second division will be without one of its teams – SMB – for the new season.

The Barclays league division one will feature 10 teams – defending champions Côte d’Or, Intelvision Cup, Airtel Cup and President’s Cup winners St Michel, La Passe, The Lions, LightStars, Northern Dynamo, St Francis, St Louis Suns, Anse Reunion and newly promoted Praslin-based side Revengers.

The second-tier league will comprise seven teams in 2014 instead of eight as has been the case during previous years. The reason for this reduction is because former cup winners SMB did not register a team for the new season. Therefore, the second division will be contested by last year’s demoted side from the first division St Roch along with St John Bosco, Au Cap, SPDF, Foresters, Beau Vallon and the newly promoted Rude Boyz.

The third division will have the highest number of teams – 13 – this season. The teams competing are Baie Lazare Volcano, Grand Anse Mahé Agrics, Mont Fleuri, West Coast, Perseverance, Bel Air, Tigers, Plaisance, Victoria City (formerly Real Boyz),  Real Maldives, whose beach football team won the inaugural league title last year, Anse Royale and South Olympic.

Sports Nation takes this opportunity to wish all registered clubs the best for the upcoming season.
