Haso presents copies of HIV/Aids report to Assembly |23 December 2013

The National Assembly has received copies of a report from the sensitisation and partnership workshop held for its members in July.

Copies of the report were presented last week at the National Assembly by chairperson of the HIV/Aids Support Organisation (Haso) Justin Freminot.

Addressing those present, Mr Freminot said the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Herminie had a great role to play as a health professional in the fight against HIV/Aids, adding that he is still giving his full support.

Mr Freminot said discrimination is still a problem and there are still other challenges.

He called on members of the assembly to keep supporting Haso in its work to remove all barriers so that the organisation can move forward.

Dr Herminie re-affirmed the National Assembly’s support to the organisation adding that the members believe in the work being undertaken by Haso.

He added that there is a need to come together to tackle the HIV/Aids problem in the country.

The workshop was held at the Wharf Hotel & Marina earlier in July and was led by Haso.

There were various presentations given during the workshop and the parliamentarians worked on topics such as harm reduction, the current legal framework, human rights and the current epidemiological situation in the country.

A brief on the presentations have been compiled in the report as well as recommendations presented by those who took part in the workshop.
