New Glacis school to be built soon |20 November 2013

Construction of the new Glacis primary school and crèche will start early next year and it is expected to take around 18 months to complete.

The construction of the two-stream school will be undertaken by the Shenyang Construction company and is being funded by the People’s Republic of China.

It will have 12 primary classrooms and six crèche levels, and other associated specialist rooms such as computer and craft rooms.

Site preparation will start this year and the school is estimated to cost around R30 to R35m, inclusive of furniture and everything.

An agreement between the construction company and the Ministry of Education was signed yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Signing the accord were general manager of the construction company Jiang Changchun and the principal secretary for education Merida Delcy.

Witnessing the signing of the agreement were Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon and Chinese ambassador Shi Zhongjun.

Mrs Delcy thanked the People’s Republic of China for the grant that has been made available for Seychelles in order to construct the primary school at Glacis.

“This project is something which the community of Glacis is waiting for so I am pleased that we have reached the final stage of preparation, and that very soon the construction of the school will start,” she added.
