Weightlifting: Commonwealth Youth, Junior and Senior Championship and African Senior Championship-Fifth clean sweep of gold medals for Georges

The two competitions are taking place at the same time in Cape Town, South Africa.

This is a record fifth clean sweep for the police officer who registered the same feat in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002, Kampala, Uganda in 2005, Casablanca, Morocco in 2006 and Yaoundé, Cameroon last year.

Thursday’s result also extended her record as Seychelles’ highest gold medal winner in the African senior weightlifting championship with 16 after she also won a gold and two silver in Tunisia, Tunisia in 2004.

Taking to the platform of the Good Hope Centre in Cape Town yesterday, Georges snatched 96kg and registered 110kg in the clean & jerk for an Olympic total of 206kg Olympic to occupy top spot on the medals podium and win three gold medals in the African senior championship.

The result placed Georges second in the Commonwealth ranking behind Indian Monika Devi Laishram who has two world champion titles, a second place and a third place in her collection of silverware.

Seychelles’ other medals on Thursday came from young Sirous Farabeau (youth 85kg) who competed in the senior category of the African championship. He snatched 82kg and lifted 105kg in the clean & jerk for a total of 187kg, earning himself three silver medals.

He also won a fourth silver medal after being ranked second in the youth category of the Commonwealth championship.

On Wednesday, Charles Siméon recorded a total of 225kg to win the African senior championship silver medal in the 77kg category, after snatching 110kg (bronze) and lifting 145kg in the clean & jerk (silver).

Seychelles’ other medallist on Wednesday was youth female lifter Rena Agricole who competed in the 63kg division.

After snatching 60kg, Agricole lifted 65kg in the clean & jerk for an Olympic total of 125kg, earning her three bronze medals in the African senior championship.

The performance placed her second in the youth Commonwealth championship ranking, earning her a silver medal.

Seychelles’ last lifter at the competition – Elvis Jeanne (105kg) – will compete Friday.

The country’s other medallists at the two championships are Ruby Malvina (three silver in the African senior championship with 163kg after snatching 70kg and lifting 93kg in the clean & jerk of the 58kg category), Rick Confiance (three silver in the senior 56kg category of the African senior championship after snatching 75kg and getting 90kg in the clean & jerk for an Olympic total of 165kg), Katsia Télémaque (three silver in the 48kg category of the African senior championship after snatching 65kg and finishing with 79kg in the clean & jerk for a 144kg total.

The same performance won her a bronze medal in the senior Commonwealth Championship) and Ian Rose (three bronze medals in the 69kg category of the African senior championship after snatching 105kg and lifting 130kg in the clean & jerk event for a total of 235kg).
