Aiba World Boxing Championships-Agnes and Julie bow out |30 September 2011

Agnes came close to earning his first win at the Aiba World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, but was edged at the first hurdle on Wednesday.

The first Seychellois boxer in action on Wednesday night, Agnes lost his light heavyweight (81kg) fight on a tight 14-15 score against Dariel Ebanks of the Cayman Islands at the Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex.

Yesterday afternoon, Julie, who qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece after becoming the first Seychelles to win an African championship title, bowed out of the welterweight (69kg) division after losing 4-21 to Canadian fighter Custio Clayton.

Allisop and Jean will enter the ring in Baku tomorrow.

Allisop’s opponent is Thai Saylom Ardee and they will exchange punches for a place in the next round of the lightweight (60kg) category tomorrow afternoon and in the evening, Jean will cross swords with Austrian Robert Jankovski in a middleweight (75kg) clash.
