Seychelles takes part in ‘war economy’ forum |24 August 2010
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) held the forum in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from August 11-13 to look at the results of countries’ economies being geared towards waging war.
The Seychelles delegation comprised Wilby Lucas, deputy speaker of the National Assembly, and Sandy Arrisol, elected member for St Louis.
The conference was officially opened by the Vice-President of Zimbabwe, John L. Nkomo. Piracy was one of the topics on the agenda, and Mr Lucas said there was a strong recommendation that Comesa member states should transform the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea into domestic laws and harmonise legislation to address common goals in the fight against war economies.
