Consul general in Austria dies after long illness

Dr Pisec, who was 84, was appointed to the post of honorary consul in September 1978 andDr Karl J. Pisec elevated to the post of honorary consul general in 1984.

He had been active as Seychelles’ representative at the International Atomic Energy Authority and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation in Austria since 1995.

He was also a retired member of the Austrian Federal Council and an honorary member of the Council of Europe.

Dr Pisec, who died on November 15, will always remain in the hearts of the many Seychellois who have known him. He will be remembered for his invaluable contributions to the government and people of Seychelles, notably his staunch support for the country’s environment policies.

President James Michel has, in the name of the government and people of Seychelles, conveyed to Dr Pisec’s family his heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences on this sad occasion.

Internationally, Dr Pisec will be remembered for his lifetime achievements. He was awarded with the Great Golden Badge of Honour of the Republic of Austria, the Great Silver Badge of Honour, the Great Golden Badge of Honour of Vienna, the Golden Medal for Achievement concerning the business relations of the City of Vienna, the Julius Raab Medal and the Golden Needle of Viennese trade.

Dr Pisec leaves his daughter Dr Tanja Pisec-Weihen and her husband Johann Weihen, his son Karl H. Pisec and his wife Carina Kriegl-Pisec, his grandchildren Philip, Fabian and Florian, and other relatives.

The funeral service will be held on Friday November 27 at the Evangelischer Friedhof-Wien-Matzlensdorf, where Seychelles will be represented.
