Three Air Seychelles staff gain IT degrees

The new graduates (from l to r: Laval, Kilindo and Chang-Lam) discussing an IT project for the airline

Through its own training academy, the airline provides basic and intermediary training for its employees in information technology, with more specialised training being given abroad.

And recently, three of its IT and telecommunications staff completed degree courses through distance learning.
Marc Chang-Lam, Hubert Laval and Daniel Kilindo of the IT and Telecommunications Division gained their degrees after following a long-distance learning programme with the University of London and the University of Liverpool.

Mr Kilindo gained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in information systems and management from the University of London, while Mr Laval got his Master of Science (MSc) degree in information technology – specialising in internet computing – from the University of Liverpool, where he also achieved a grade A for his dissertation.

Mr Chang-Lam has been awarded a Master of Science (Msc) degree in information systems management by the University of Liverpool, where he gained a grade A for his dissertation and was also awarded a distinction (first class honours) for his master’s, an exceptional achievement.

Air Seychelles’ executive chairman Captain David Savy said: “Congratulations to Marc, Daniel and Hubert on this great personal achievement. Such an investment made by HM in personal development, to have fully trained and qualified personnel in our airline, is another feather in our cap.

“Our training and manpower development strategy is aimed at getting all levels of staff to actively pursue further studies, whether it is at our training academy or externally.”

The airline now has one of the largest IT departments in Seychelles, and this is poised to grow as the industry has fully embraced the fact that productivity improvements will be primarily driven by the widespread introduction of IT across its operations.

Air Seychelles has also seen a number of its long-serving employees achieve higher qualifications recently, which reinforces the notion that it is never too late to study.
