Third Commonwealth Youth Games-Swimmers Austin and Didon still in action |17 October 2008

On Wednesday, sprinter Yannick Ernesta clocked 24.13 seconds in the fifth of the six 200m heats and failed to progress to the semifinals.

In the women’s high jump, Seychelles’ medal hopeful Lissa Labiche could only clear the bar at a best height of 1.68m to finish sixth out of 14 competitors.

Holder of the Seychelles record of 1.79m, Labiche cleared the bar at the first attempt at 1.50m, 1.60m, 1.65m and 1.68m before failing to go over 1.71m three times.

The gold medal went to Elizabeth Lamb of New Zealand with a best jump of 1.79m, while Molly Grant of Australia finished second with 1.74m and Norliyana Binti Kamaruddin from Malaysia third with 1.71m.

In swimming, Austin and Didon did not make the finals of the events they competed in on Wednesday and yesterday.

On Wednesday, Shannon competed in 200m freestyle (2 minutes 20.69 seconds), 50m butterfly (33.76 seconds) and 50m breaststroke (39.24 seconds). Yesterday, she was in action in the 100m freestyle (1 minute 04.77 seconds) and 200m individual medley (2 minutes 40.91 seconds).

Didon took part in the 50m breaststroke (36.04 seconds) and 50m butterfly (34.15 seconds) on Wednesday and yesterday he competed in the 100m breaststroke (1 minute 22.87 seconds) and 100m freestyle (1 minute 06.53 seconds).
