Local band The Red Trees to perform in S. Africa

The band’s members: (from l to r) Julio Godley (lead guitar), Kurt Gilbert (drums), Pat Flynn (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) and Martin Kennedy (bass guitar)

Hot on the heels of their successful first release, In the Sunshine/Everything Moves, the band have secured help to cover most of their travel costs, including sponsorships from Takamaka Bay, Air Seychelles and prominent representatives of the Seychellois Czech community.

The band will play at several of South Africa’s biggest live music venues, including the famed Blues Room in Johannesburg, which has played host to many of the world’s leading bands of the last 10 years.

The band have also received extremely positive feedback to their multitrack demo tape, including several expressions of interests from music business representatives in South Africa.

It is understood that Sony BMG has the band’s demo tape and that representatives of the Big Four international recording companies will be attending at least one of six planned shows in South Africa.

The band’s management team are also in discussions with several major industry players with a view to securing the band radio airtime ahead of the tour to South Africa.

As a bonus the band have been offered free recording time at Johannesburg’s most modern music recording facility. And samples of their work have been invited for submission to a South Africa-wide contest, the winner of which will receive an international recording contract.

Red Trees spokesman Julio Godley says: “We are completely blown away by the positive response to our songs and our shows to date – not only are we getting radio airtime but the last gig drew over 200 screaming fans and with little promotion.

“More to the point, we are totally humbled by the fact that people have been prepared to dip into their pockets to help us get to South Africa, it’s a dream come true for us really. We just hope we can do Seychelles proud when we get there.”
Meantime the band continues to ride high on the local airwaves with Paradise FM having picked up on an as yet unreleased track, the tuneful, lyrically thoughtful rock ballad Times Have Changed, which is being played on high rotation to rave responses.
