Basketball: Inter-School knockout Tournament-Mont Fleuri and Anse Boileau triumph

Female winners Mont Fleuri Secondary School

In the girls’ division, Mont Fleuri Secondary School was the best. Although most of its players are training with the country’s pre-selection for the forthcoming Jeux de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan indien, the Mont Fleuri Secondary School team did not take things lightly.

Captained by Doris Oreddy, they took each match seriously, eliminating English River Secondary School in their first encounter before beating Anse Royale Secondary School in the semifinal. In the final, the players of Physical Education (PE) instructor Gregoire Scholastique triumphed 20-2 against Pointe Larue Secondary School.

Altogether, six secondary school teams participated in the female competition of the one-day tournament.
Competition in the boys’ category was tougher as no less than four teams could win the title. In the end, Anse Boileau Secondary School triumphed.

Male winners Anse Boileau Secondary School

Skippered by Arnaud Arissol, son of HotShots’ playmaker Brenda Arissol whose husband Philip Arissol is the team’s coach, Anse Boileau Secondary School started their campaign with a 17-8 win against another title favourites Mont Fleuri Secondary school. In the semifinal, they eliminated English River Secondary School 18-11 to make the final where they met Plaisance Secondary School whom they beat on a 17-14 score.

Eight teams competed in the tournament and some players said that they really enjoyed themselves as they pitted their skills against each other.
