DP office re-opened |03 March 2008
It was the party’s founder, former President James Mancham, who unveiled the plaque to officially open the office, while a senior member of the party and a young supporter cut the ribbon.
“The office has been out of action for quite a while so this is an opportunity for us to increase the awareness of supporters that the office is now open and they may contact us there,” DP’s leader Paul Chow told Nation.
He said that DP’s general secretary, Georges Bibi, will be in the office to attend to supporters who call there.
In his speech, Mr Mancham traced the history of the party, naming the people who helped found the DP.
Noting that there exist today two “factions” within the Democratic Party, Mr Mancham appealed to all DP supporters “to remember our motto of Peace, Progress & Prosperity – and our traditional policy that the interest of our people is more important than just the quest for power – and in this situation try to bring about as soon as possible unity within the DP umbrella”.
“With unity, the DP would be able to have a more secure and thriving future, remaining faithful to its slogan of Peace, Progress & Prosperity,” Mr Mancham added.
