Mancham to participate in One World Week |18 January 2008
Focusing on the over-arching theme “The Power of Knowledge”, One World Forum 2008 will take place on the University of Warwick’s campus from January 18 to 26.
The aim is to build on the success of previous years when the University was honoured to have been addressed by Professor John Hume (Nobel Peace Laureate 1988); Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu (Nobel Peace Laureate 1984); Professor Raghuram Rajan (Chief Economist International Monetary Fund) and Mr Stephan Tidall (Executive Director – Greenpeace, UK).
“As the founding President of the Republic of Seychelles, and President of the Global Peace Council of the Universal Peace Federation, we believe that you have contributed immensely to the struggle of democracy in Seychelles and beyond, your participation in the One World Forum would greatly enlighten and inspire many of our students, academics and members of the local community,” Mr Jonas Rave, organizer of the global event, wrote to former President Mancham.
Mr Mancham will in fact participate in a roundtable discussion on January 25 on the theme “Suicide Terrorism” alongside three other speakers – Dr. George Kassimeris (Senior Research Fellow on Conflict and Terrorism, University of Wolverhampton); Mr Crispin Black, MBE (a terrorism expert with 22 years of career in British intelligence and author of “7-7: The London Bombings: What Went Wrong?”); and Ms Marja Lehto (Chair of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on Terrorism).
The University of Warwick is a British Campus University in Coventry, England, which in the last Research Assessment Exercise, was considered the 5th highest ranked research institution in the UK.
