Library publishes collection of poems in Creole |09 January 2008
Present at the launching ceremony, which coincided with the National Library Day, were the young poets who works feature in the book, as well as staff of the National Library.
In her address Ms Onezime said that her ministry will encourage more initiatives in this kind of work started by the National Library which she said provides the children with the opportunity of self-expression as well as allow them to develop self-confidence, thus encouraging them to be part of a developing culture.
During the launching, the guests also had the chance to view a small photo exhibition which illustrated the various developments in the Seychelles’ library system since the colonial period to date.
The poems featured in the compilation were entries in a poetry competition organized in October 2002 during the 17th edition of the Festival Kreol.
The fourteen poets whose works feature in the book are Fabiana Bonne, Alvin Mondon, Marie Josee Esperanza D’Unienville, Sherelle Choppy, Alice Mancienne, Myra George, Sanah Léon, Juliette Elizabeth, Mandy Bertin, Colin Adrienne, Genevieve Contoret, Barbara Lozaïque , Dinah Vidot and Carroll Cassime.
