Petanque: Shooting competition-Renaud shoots to victory |15 June 2007
Ranked 10th worldwide, Renaud comfortably outpaced the other shooters to take home the top prize.
The shooting competition, which was divided into three categories - precisely male, female and juniors - saw the participation of 26 contestants.
In the male category, Roland Renaud eliminated Colin Esparon 39-36 in the quarterfinal before clashing with Antoine Botsoie in the semifinal. Botsoie had eliminated Auguste Louise in another quarterfinal match.
Once again, the semifinal was just a formality for Renaud as he trounced Botsoie 38-22 to reach the final where he met Joseph Sinon who had eliminated Joseph Charles 22-18 in the other semifinal match.
As expected, the more experienced Renaud discarded Joseph Sinon’s challenge to triumph by a wide 15-point margin – 42-27.
Antoine Botsoie was third overall after he defeated Joseph Charles 23-21 in the third place play-off match.
In the female category, there were only four contestants and Sheila Chang-Time was the grand winner. After eliminating Marie-May Savy 16-5 in the semifinal, Chang-Time qualified for the final where she encountered Vivianne Finesse who narrowly edged out Linda Sinon 8-7 in the other semifinal.
In the final, Sheila Chang-Time was more accurate than Finesse and she went on to win the match 30-23 to claim the title.
In the third place play-off match, Marie-May Savy defeated Linda Sinon 15-7.
In the junior category, seven young shooters contested for the top prize and Marius Sinon was the grand winner.
After defeating James Ernesta 6-4 in the semifinal, Sinon met Mario Dufresne in the final.
Dufresne, who had eliminated Joshua Adeline 13-12 in the other semifinal match, was no match for Sinon who triumphed 16-4.
Joshua Adeline was third overall after his 15-12 victory over James Ernesta in the third place play-off match.
