New Baie Ste Anne School inaugurated

President Michel unveils the plaque to officially inaugurate the schoolThe President of the Republic formally opened and handed over the school to teachers and pupils of Baie Ste Anne during a festive ceremony that also marked the start of celebrations for this year’s Liberation Day and National Day.

The school is situated on the reclaimed Eve Island, adjacent to the district of Baie Ste Anne and has cost an estimated SR22 million, funded by OPEC and the Seychelles Government.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, President Michel, who along with his wife Natalie had traveled to Praslin on the newly launched high-speed catamaran Cat Cocos II, said that the new Baie Ste Anne Primary School “is another example of the investments that the government is making in the education of the young generation and the future of our country”.

He stressed that “government will continue to give attention to education, for education is key to our country’s future and our development”.

The inauguration ceremony for the school was attended by Designated Minister Danny Faure, the Minister for Education Bernard Shamlaye, other ministers and officials from their ministries, Roman Catholic Bishop Denis Wiehe, representatives of the Baie Ste Anne district, parents and residents of the district.
