Work starts on new medical centre

The site where the medical centre will be constructed Called the Seychelles International Specialist Medical Centre, the facility is a joint private venture between a well-known doctor, Dr V. Ramadoss and Emerald Holdings Ltd.

Work to clear the ground between Airtel’s offices and the Wharf Marina and Resort has started, and the facility is expected to be operational early next year.

It is being built by Island Construction Company.

A spokesperson for the centre said it will offer accident and emergency as well as general and specialist outpatient clinics along with in-patient care.

“We will also offer general and specialized surgical services, medical laboratory and other diagnostic services,” a spokesperson for the centre, a medical doctor, said yesterday, noting that physiotherapy, pharmacy and telemedicine services will also be provided, "as we undertake a continuous medical education for nurses and doctors".

“Laboratory services will include a comprehensive range of cytology, histopathology, biochemistry, haematology microbiology, endocrinology and other serological tests including tumour markers,” she said, adding that the centre will also offer radiological imaging, digital X-ray, mammography, bone densitometry, ultrasound and echocardiography.

“Endoscopy and lithotripsy will also be available along with comprehensive health checkup schemes,” she said, naming many other services that the centre will be equipped to offer.

“In patient services will have 50 private rooms luxuriously decorated including one royal suite, four luxury suites, 25 deluxe rooms and 20 standard rooms of which five will be child-friendly rooms,” she said, noting that the complex will also have a prayer room a shopping arcade, a cafeteria, a medical library and a conference hall.

The spokesperson is inviting “dedicated and like minded investors – institutional or individual, local residents or foreign national – to invest in this state-of-the-art  hospital.”

“10,000 public shares will be available at the rate of US $1,000 in any equivalent currency, she said, and invited interested investors to log onto the website www.seychellesmedicalcentre for further information.
