Snoc’s poem writing and public speaking competitions-Anse Boileau Secondary School and Independent School winners |31 October 2006
The competitions are organised by the National Olympic Academy of Seychelles (NOAS), an arm of the Seychelles National Olympic Committee (Snoc).
The theme for this year’s poem writing competition was “Fair Play” whilst the topic of argument for the public speaking competition was “Sports Ethics”.
The poem writing competition was divided into four categories and in the first category – Primary 4 – 6 – Lisette Roseline from Beau Vallon Primary School was the grand winner. The Glacis Primary School Olympic club was the runner-up whilst Marie-Lourde Cherry from Anse Boileau Primary School was third.
In the second category, which comprised secondary 1 and 2 students, Nazmah Jumaye and Charani Walpola from the Anse Boileau Secondary School were first and second respectively. Nancy Tomking of Anse Royale Secondary School finished third.
Anse Boileau Secondary School’s Alvynas Vidot topped the third category – Secondary 3 - 4. Isuru Walpola also from Anse Boileau Secondary School was the runner-up whilst Anse Royale Secondary School’s Geneviève Bristol was third.
Maureen Léon from Anse Royale Secondary school was first in the fourth category – Secondary 5. She finished ahead of Anse Boileau Secondary School’s Vanessa Léon and Luthina Dogley who were second and third respectively.
In the public speaking competition, nine teams tried their best to impress the judges with their presentation on “Sports Ethics” and only a slight 0.5 point margin separated the winner from the runner-up.
The Independent School trio of Caroline McGregor (chairperson), Angelique Pouponneau (main speaker) and Rhea René (proposer of vote of thanks) scored the highest mark – 324.5 points – to clinch the top spot.
English River Secondary School’s Juliette Lawrence (chairperson), Venessa Herminie (main speaker) and Ramilla Nalletamby (proposer of vote of thanks) were the runners-up with 324 points.
Aisha Louange, Esmée Jumeau and Dora Tirant from Beau Vallon Secondary School were third with 302.5 points.
With 288 points, the Praslin Secondary School team comprising Angelique Morel, Shelda Dingwall and Davis André came out fourth.
Represented by Lyanne Aglaé, Thyra Faure and Nathalie Maillet, the School of A’Level Studies (SALS) garnered 285.5 points to finish fifth overall.
Coming from the Plaisance Secondary School, Markhous Kanté, Cheryl Clarisse and Tahyra Constance finished sixth with 284 points.
Anse Boileau Secondary School’s Luthina Dogley, Rupert Payet and Stepanny Rosette were seventh overall with 265 points.
Vanessa Bastienne, Alessandra Arrigo and Clyny DeLétourdie from Pointe Larue Secondary School were eight overall with 253 points.
In the ninth position with 229 points were Sharon Andimignon, Lanna Jacques and Tracy Maria representing the Mont Fleuri Secondary School.
Angelique Pouponneau of Independent School was voted the best main speaker with 157 points, English River Secondary School’s Juliette Lawrence the best chairperson with 81 points and SALS’s Nathalie Maillet the best proposer of the vote thanks with 79 points.
