Better training for Scouts leaders

Last Saturday’s workshop in full swing

The workshop, entitled Adult Resources Policy, is expected to guide the association towards the best ways to recruit new leaders, to train and retain them.

The activity, sponsored by the Scouts Regional Bureau in Kenya, is the first of a series of workshops planned as part of a project, known as Jacob’s Project, to ensure that the association has in place a training programme that is of high standard and meet the expectations of leaders.

Other similar workshops are expected to take place on August 4, 5 and 6, and the document is expected to be finalised before the end of August.

Saturday's workshop was conducted by facilitator Steve Lalande and members of the Scouts management, including Regis Gonthier, the National Executive Commissioner; Bernard Elizabeth, the Chief Commissioner; John Marie, the International Relations Commissioner; and Jean Pointe, who is the Training Commissioner.

As can be recalled, the Scouts Association of Seychelles joined the regional Jacob’s project earlier this year with the launching of the Youth Leadership Development Project for Africa Scout Region.

The aim of the project is to improve leadership skills for the young people in scouting, so that they can be prepared to bring positive changes to their associations and communities at large.

It will run for 18 months and among the activities planned in Seychelles are the revision of the youth programme, the development of the mentioned Adult Resources Policy and a series of youth leadership courses for the scouts.

Management, leadership and team building courses have also been scheduled for the scout leaders, to equip them with skills necessary for the delivery of the Youth Programme.
