Jean Marc Volcy is back with Sove Lavi |20 May 2006
The album has been on sale for the past two weeks or so.
Sove Lavi is the title of Jean Marc‘s new solo album which comprises fourteen new tracks, all as rhythmic and full of the usual spicy Creole lyrics that have become Jean Marc’s trademark.
While only two of the songs on the album were recorded in Seychelles, the rest were recorded in Mauritius and the album itself was also launched there earlier this month.
Jean Marc is accompanied on several of the songs by Wendy Duval, who is a very prominent Mauritian female artist and a good friend of Jean Marc’s.
While the general comment going around is that Jean Marc has changed his style of music on this new album, the singer points out that this is not at all the case.
He says that on the contrary, having a Mauritian drummer and female vocalist backing him up, this has enhanced his music and added a new touch and flavour to his songs.
“After the two well known sega beats have combined together, the end result surely sounds different but the style is still the same,” he says.
When asked why he has recorded most of his songs in Mauritius, Jean Marc says that this is the result of the good friendship and cooperation which he has with his Mauritian counterparts.
He noted that producing his seventh album in Mauritius has not only increased his popularity in the region but in so doing he is trying to close the gap which exists between Mauritius and Seychelles in the music business.
“The idea is also to facilitate future links for other Seychellois who would want to venture that far,” Jean Marc says.
The singer has also revealed that his aim is to try and come up with a much better product each time and that he is looking into the possibility of increasing such combined musical productions in the future.
Jean Marc, who positively acknowledges the end product of his latest effort, says he is optimistic that public acceptance here will be as widespread as is the case in the region.
Among the various titles featuring on this new album are Sove and Lavi ; two titles which Jean Marc has combined to come up with the title of the album itself.
Interpreting the strange feature on the album cover – a skeleton under a bright sun in the desert – the singer explains that “according to my observations, life is supposed to be happy and bright like the sun but the way we very often live is similar to a skeleton in the desert and that it is up to us to prevent that from happening”.
Other titles on the album include the very rhythmic Sexy Sega, the very comic Karang and also Leskelet dan Larmwar which Jean Marc says is made up of many Seychellois sayings and words of wisdom.
Jean Marc believes that if any of these new songs were to provoke some long lasting impressions it will be Leskelet dan Larmwar which, he says, details facts of every day life which many people will easily identify themselves with.
Jean Marc has also dedicated a song to the long lasting friendship which exists between Seychelles and countries of the region and “Nou lwen nou pre” emphasises that.
Jean Marc stresses that through this reinforced friendship between artists of the region, he intends to derive the maximum benefit from both the cultural and financial potentials of such an opportunity.
Asked whether he thinks this new album will have the same explosive effect on the public as the previous ones, Jean Marc says he is optimistic.
He believes that originality counts a lot and “when in this business, one should always pay attention to the quality of one’s work”.
“There will always be lovers of my kind of music and I believe that my fans are still as numerous,” Jean Marc points out.
The singer, who has not planned any official launching of the album locally, is calling on his fans not to be disappointed because he says he is planning an end-of-year surprise for them.
