Election date to be announced in due course |10 May 2006

Mr Gappy said this Tuesday May 9 in a statement, in which he also announced that his office has received another consignment of electoral equipment for the conduct of the forthcoming Presidential Election.

He added that other consignments are due from overseas.
It is to be noted that we are already in the 90-day period mandated by the Constitution, during which the Electoral Commissioner can call for the Presidential Election.

Meanwhile the Office of the Electoral Commissioner is in the process of establishing the rules and regulations for the conduct of the election. 

This, Mr Gappy said in his statement, is in line with the electoral reform envisaged based on the experiences of the previous elections.
