St Louis are chasing their first championship success since 1994 and they had the match under control with two goals in the first 37 minutes.
Alpha Baldé scored from a deflected free-kick as early as the fifth minute and Achille Henriette added a second goal eight minutes before the break.
Gervais Waye-Hive headed in his team’s third goal 13 minutes from time before Ashley Cedras escaped the St Louis defence to score Sunshine’s consolation goal in injury time.
St Louis have joined Red Star and Northern Dynamo on six points following the win, but they are in second position due to a superior goal difference of +4. Red Star boast a goal difference of +3 and Northern Dynamo +1.
Sunshine, on the other hand, are yet to score their first points in the league competition. The Airtel Cup losing finalists are winless after three matches and they have scored only one goal while conceding eight in three matches played.
