Scouting for new membership |14 June 2005
This was said by Chief Scout Basil Soundy as he presented his report in the organisation's 11th annual general meeting (AGM) held recently at the National Institute of Education (NIE).
The meeting was held in the presence of scouts and their parents.
Mr Soundy described last year as an eventful year as he retraced activities organised both locally and internationally.
He also announced a number of activities planned for this year such as the 5th Africa Jamboree to be held in Mozambique in December, and which will see the participation of scouts from Seychelles.
In 2007, scouting will be celebrating its 100th anniversary and Mr Soundy said this presents a unique opportunity for each and every scout in Seychelles to demonstrate the values of scouting in the preparation of projects to mark this occasion.
He also mentioned that as part of activities, a group of Venture Scouts was making preparations for the launching of a "Gift for Peace" project, a Peace Garden to be built in the area where the Music Stadium is located currently.
During the recent AGM four Scouts Commissioners who have completed their one-year mandate were also re-elected to serve for another term in office.
Regis Gonthier was re-elected as the Commissioner for Training, John Marie as Commissioner of International Relation, Jacques Rampal as Commissioner of Public Relations and Community Development and Holbert Jean as Commissioner of National Club Scouts.
Besides the Commissioners three new leaders, a treasurer and a secretary were elected.
The Scouts Association is made up of 12 active groups with 320 members, one group of nine Venture Scouts, 25 Leaders and 11 Commissioners.
The annual membership fee is R50 for a person over 18 years of age and R25 for a person under 18.
