VCS launches training centre plan for 2005 |31 January 2005
Among the new course line-up is Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification in IT subjects including database design, implementation and administration using Microsoft SQL as well as design, implementation and management of a Microsoft Exchange Server organization.
The latter is a powerful product that speeds up and facilitates communication and work group collaboration within a company.
"Many workplaces in Seychelles that rely heavily on data have implemented networks but are not using them to their fullest capacity mainly due to lack of expertise in the daily administration of the systems in place," says Daniel Adrienne, the VCS Training Centre Administrator.
According to Mr Adrienne, security within a network is also essential.
"These courses will equip IT technicians, managers and administrators with certified skills to ensure the smooth running of their network-based systems."
VCS Training Centre is also offering upgrade courses to AutoCAD 2000 users and courses in the new versions which will cover introductory and intermediate levels as well as the more advanced three dimensional design and rendering.
AutoCAD is a worldwide renowned software designed to permit a user to construct or edit a technical drawing on a graphics display screen. It is used mainly by draughtsmen and architects for mapping, drafting, designing buildings, bridges etc.
The centre's decision is in line with increasing demand for specialised training from private companies, governmental organisations and individuals wishing to train their workforce to ensure they hold the correct knowledge to perform their job.
Cisco Certification
Corporates and individuals wanting to train in cutting-edge Cisco technologies and hardware will from now on benefit from Cisco training and certification conducted at VCS Training Centre. It is the first time ever that such advanced training is being offered locally by an authorised IT training centre.
Cisco Systems Incorporated is the leading manufacturer of components that links computer networks and powers the internet. Cisco's Internet Protocol-based (IP) internetworking and IP telephony solutions are the foundation of the Internet and most corporate, education, and government networks around the world. It provides the broadest line of solutions for transporting data, voice and video within buildings, across campuses, or around the world.
Cable & Wireless Seychelles is one of the many companies using the system for routing, telephony and remote access. According to the company’s IP Research and Development manager, Mr Tony Delorie, Cisco systems are more widely used by Cable & Wireless Seychelles than other brands because of its high quality and reliability.
Mr Delorie says they even strongly recommend that their clients such as hotels, banks and offshore companies invest in Cisco products for their businesses.
He has welcomed VCS' decision to introduce the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) & Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) training and certification by explaining that even if their IT technicians have followed basic Cisco training, Cable & Wireless aims to have all of them trained to the highest level in the installation, configuration and administration of Cisco systems.
"Cisco systems are most reliable and flexible to work with. Our IT technicians stand to benefit enormously from these courses. We want to standardize our equipment and these courses are an important step in this direction. It's a big advantage that such high-level training is now being conducted locally," he said.
Linux Certification
The centre is also introducing CompTIA Linux+ certification, an international industry credential that certifies technical knowledge in basic installation, operation and troubleshooting for Linux operating systems. Unlike other software vendors, Linux’s operating system source code is freely available (open source). Developers are therefore free to make changes to the way the operating system works.
Earning the CompTIA Linux+ designation means that the candidate can explain fundamental open source resources and licenses, demonstrate knowledge of user administration, understand file permissions/software configurations and manage local storage devices and network protocols.
Studies conducted by VCS Training Centre have confirmed that demands for skilled Linux support professionals has grown significantly and candidates as well as the industry have indicated that a foundation-level certification for this job function is necessary.
Upon completion of the courses, participants can test the level of their technical skills by sitting for international exams, qualifying them as certified professionals in their chosen field.
VCS Training Centre is the only institution in Seychelles, and one out of only four in the Indian Ocean region that is authorised to deliver internationally recognised IT related technical certification exams.
Desktop application courses
Desktop application courses such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint for beginner, intermediate and advanced users. Network+ and A+ courses will still be offered during the year at the centre.
In addition, one day workshops on topics of interest will be organized for users wishing to delve into specific issues such as hardware upgrading, physical network installation and to develop specialized expertise in desktop application.
Training catalogues and course schedules are available for participants wishing to enroll on these courses. For further details, contact VCS Training Centre on 280000 or email training@vcsinet.com
