The new Barclays eagle has landed |06 July 2004

The new Barclays eagle has landed

The old brand. The new eagle

The changes took effect late last month across 12 countries in Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East and will be affecting 217 branches of Barclays Africa, including Barclays Bank (Seychelles) Ltd.

Barclays Bank (Sey) has announced that the newly adopted brand and slogans would start appearing on its banking services over the next year.

The eagle which is a symbol of Barclays commercial and visual identity, has undergone certain changes. It has been removed from the globe, has had its three crowns removed and its white feathers have now been painted blue.

According to a communiqué from Barclays, the brand has always been synonymous with security, stability and trustworthiness and is one of the things people remember most about Barclays visually.

"The vision of the new campaign is for customers to experience and identify with a refreshed Barclays and what it stands for," the communiqué states.

Barclays, the communiqué states, views its brand as more than just a logo or a name– It is what the Group stands for in the minds of its existing and potential customers and employees.  It adds that Barclays has millions of customers world-wide and for each one of them, the brand represents not only a 300-year old history, but wide-ranging experience and expertise.
According to Mr Frank Hoareau, the managing director of Barclays Bank (Sey), a strong brand is the most valuable asset of any company.

"It is a primary source of its competitive advantage and a valuable strategic asset. The Barclays brand is built from the customers' entire experience with its company, its products and its services," he said.

"We are proud to be associated with such a powerful name and to deliver on the promise that the brand makes to our customer," he added.
Barclays has been operating in Africa for the last 100 years and has recently won the Euromoney Best Debt House award in South Africa as well as awards for the Best Bank in Kenya and Zambia.
