Is Anse Major losing it’s serenity?

Anse Major, a serene place attracted by both locals and tourists

When one needs to ‘get away from it all’; when  one needs to visit the ‘land’s end’ of the north of Mahe; when one needs to simply admire the beauty of Seychelles in an unspoiled and serene environment,  one goes to Anse Major, an awesome natural place on the mountain end of the Bel Ombre district.

The welcoming, beautiful scenic and turquoise sea down below is a balm to the scary ride one took along a snaky road up the hill of Bel Ombre towards Anse  Major and soothing to the troubled, stressed or tired mind.

But construction activities are going at Anse Major and the fear is will such natural luxury that was being enjoyed by visitors there is going to disappear? A major building resembling a fortress has now hidden the beautiful granitic mountain that was also a major attraction when one decided to lift his or her eyes from the sea below and raise them towards the mountain to admire it’s beauty.

You may  even wonder how construction materials reached this ‘land’s end’ as there is also quite an impressive house nestling among the rocks and trees further down below.

Anse Major trail forms part of tourism establishments’ tour and activities programme where visitors are taken on a two-hour walk there through the Bel Ombre road.

Anse Major is also home to many endemic plants. Are those on-going developments there also a danger to of such plants? Anse Major is a serene place – hope we keep it that way.
