Reunion delegation on working visit here |26 September 2013
Renewable energy, biodiversity, water and environmental management are top on the agenda of a mission from Reunion.
The delegation, who is on a week-long visit to Seychelles, met the Minister for Environment and Energy, Professor Rolph Payet, to outline the aim of its visit.
The group will get the chance to meet different key stakeholders to discuss further collaboration, notably in the area of water resources.
Reunion island faces similar water challenges as Seychelles and it has been agreed that the sharing of expertise will strengthen the country’s capacity to manage its water resources.
More importantly, the mission is here to start preparations for a major renewable energy exhibition which Seychelles and Reunion are co-organising. The exhibition is expected to bring together over 30 companies based in Reunion along with local companies to showcase renewable energy solutions to all sectors of the economy.
The fair will present an opportunity for local companies to partner with their Reunion counterparts, develop investment projects and discuss solutions.
It is expected that the exhibition will be an essential platform for the business sector in Seychelles to interact and learn from the Reunion experience in the implementation of renewable energy in all sectors, including tourism.
The delegation is expected to have discussions with representatives from the Public Utilities Corporation, the National Botanical Gardens Foundation, the Seychelles National Parks Authority, the Small Enterprise Promotion Agency, the Seychelles Agricultural Agency as well as from the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The working visit of the Reunion delegation is a follow-up of President James Michel’s official visit to Reunion in July and that of Minister Payet at the beginning of September.
