Karting: Round seven vital for championship contenders |18 September 2013
Round seven of the 2013 karting championship proved vital for some championship contenders as the results made the table look very different from earlier in the season.
Taking to the track for the first time ever as fully qualified kart drivers, the SF Novice class had their first round after a five-month training course and they did not disappoint. In the Novice boys’ class, Laurent Bouchereau took his first victory ahead of Buodhima Hettiarachi, with André Berlouis taking third place. Allister Domingue took fourth with Ashward Victor finishing fifth.
The top three had a tremendous fight, swapping places, but in the end Laurent got the upperhand to win.
In the Novice ladies’ class, Annabel Hokan demolished the opposition, winning by nearly half a lap, with Thyra Fred taking second and Mary Mousbé third.
In the SF4 category, Chan Decommarmond took another win to increase his lead in the championship to 147 points, with Rennick Bonnelame taking second place while Debra Mellon took third.
Past leader Rodney Salome has now lost his lead after missing this round and drops to third.
In the SF Ladies division, Liza René-Cosgrow, who missed the previous round, won to establish a 17-point cushion over second-placed Debra Mellon with Shirin Azemia taking a well-deserved third place and Bernardette Mein finished fourth.
Mein still holds third place on the table – just 10 points adrift of Mellon. The championship is wide open in this class, and with three newcomers taking part in the next event, every point scored will be a bonus for the title.
In the SF3 class, Peter Fred took victory with Roland Delcy finishing second and Dane Decommarmond third.
Leader Marc Delcy was unlucky to lose a wheel just two laps from the end and this affected his points tally as Peter Fred closed in to just three points behind.
Dane Decommarmond is also just 10 points adrift of Peter Fred and Roland Delcy four points further back.
Anyone can win this class with just a couple of rounds left to the finals in November.
The SF1 class race was won by Stephan Simon with Liza René-Cosgrow taking second place and John Simon was third.
After this result, Liza now takes over the lead of the table by 8 points from David René who could not take part due to battery issues. Stephan lies third and John fourth.
The SF5 (Juniors) and SF6 (Cadets) rounds were cancelled altogether due to rain and a waterlogged track.
