Eastern African police chiefs meet in Seychelles |27 August 2013

Over 60 police commissioners and other senior members of police forces from Eastern Africa including Seychelles are meeting here for their annual general meeting.

The Seychelles Police Department is hosting the weeklong gathering at the International Conference Centre for the delegates whose forces are members of the Eastern African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO).

The AGM comprises a series of eight different meetings during which the police chiefs share their experiences and practices using various new technologies in the fight against transnational crimes in the region and strengthen networking between their different forces.

Yesterday morning the host country’s police commissioner Ernest Quatre launched the different meetings.
The official opening of the AGM itself will be held tomorrow.

Welcoming those present yesterday, Mr Quatre said they have before them an important task to review the implementation of resolutions taken in previous meetings and to come up with new ones.

“Your presence demonstrates that EAPCCO is committed to making a difference to our countries and people who are being affected or bound to be affected by crime in our region,” said Mr Quatre.

“Even though we come from various countries with different cultures and backgrounds, EAPCCO is forever united as one Law Enforcement body in combating crime collectively in our region,” added Mr Quatre.

Among those taking part in the weeklong meeting who were present yesterday is the head of Interpol Regional Bureau, Francis Rwego who is based in Nairobi, and the chairperson of the EAPCCO meeting Grace Akoullo.
