Fire destroys a three-bedroom house in Port Launay   |04 October 2025

Fire destroys a three-bedroom house in Port Launay

A three-bedroom house in the vicinity of the Port Launay football field was destroyed in a fire yesterday afternoon. No one was injured in the incident.

According to the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA), its Victoria station received a call at 2.14pm for assistance. The call was immediately diverted to an SFRSA crew on standby in Port Glaud for the current rockfall project underway in Beolière.

The team, which arrived at the scene within two minutes, was later assisted by an additional water bowser fire tender deployed from the Victoria fire station. The SFRSA said at the time of its arrival, fire had already engulfed the house.

“After quick assessment of the situation, the team of firefighters acted quickly to get the fire under control. It took around 10 minutes to put the fire under control and around one and a half hours for complete extinguishment,” said the SFRSA in a communique.

The house was constructed with corrugated iron sheet except for the kitchen and toilet which were built with concrete blocks and covered with corrugated iron sheets, according to SFRSA. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and an investigation in conjunction with the police is underway.
