Trade department rewards winners of lyric-writing competition

The Trade department hosted a prize-giving ceremony for the lyric-writing competition yesterday. The competition formed part of the year-long activities to celebrate World Intellectual Property (IP) Day, organised by the National Intellectual Property Committee (NIPC), in line with the World IP Day theme for this year: ‘IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP’.

The secretariat of the NIPC, the Trade Division, received eight submissions from talented students aged 15 to 21 years. After careful review, three outstanding winners were selected namely, Jahnilla Sultan – ‘Zistwar Lepase’ in first place; Riah Aglae – ‘Kenz’ as the runner-up and Elie Marzocchi – ‘I’m Just Fifteen’ in third place.

The NIPC would like to commend the participants for their creativity, passion, and commitment in celebrating the role of music in intellectual property. The NIPC would also like to thank the four judges who generously volunteered their time and expertise to review the submissions namely Jany de Letourdie, Flora Ben David, Erica Fanchette, and Stephanie Joubert.

In addition, the NIPC would also like to thank the sponsors of the competition: the National Arts and Crafts Council (NACC), the Royal Bookshop, and the University of Seychelles, whose contributions made the event possible.

The NIPC is tasked, among other responsibilities, with promoting awareness and the protection of IP in Seychelles. Through events, competitions and outreach activities, the NIPC supports creators, innovators, and the wider community in understanding the value of IP in the cultural and economic development of Seychelles.
