Portugal Shine to Set Up Quarter-Final Clash with Japan
Portugal delivered a dominant display to overcome IR Iran and secure a spot in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup™ quarter-finals, where they will face Japan. Iran, now set to meet an in-form Belarus, must regroup to keep their title hopes alive.
Team Melli struck early at The Paradise Arena, with Seyed Mirjalili deceiving the Portuguese defence. Rather than opting for his usual volley, he slid a clever pass to Mohammadali Nazarzadeh, who finished acrobatically past Pedro Mano. Though Andre Lourenco soon equalised for Portugal, Iran reclaimed the lead through a spectacular overhead kick from Reza Amiri.
From there, Portugal took control. Star forward Leo Martins turned provider as Portugal fired in five unanswered goals. Mohammadali Mokhtari responded with a stunning strike, but Miguel Pintado quickly restored Portugal’s cushion. Despite late goals from Nazarzadeh and Mokhtari, Iran couldn’t complete the comeback.
