Message from the Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Jean-François Ferrari on World Tuna Day – May 2, 2025

“On the occasion of World Tuna Day 2025, we celebrate one of the most important resources of our ocean – tuna – and reflect on its immense value to our environment, our economy, and our people.

“The theme for this year ‘Steering tuna sustainability: A driver of socio-economic prosperity’, reminds us of the crucial role tuna plays in supporting livelihoods, ensuring food security, and driving economic growth in small island developing states like Seychelles.

“Tuna is more than a commercial commodity – it is a cornerstone of our nation’s blue economy, providing jobs, generating revenue, and contributing significantly to the well-being of our coastal communities. But with this value comes a shared responsibility: to manage our tuna resources wisely and sustainably.
