Iconic black bull statue unveiled on La Digue

In the heart of La Passe on the island of La Digue, a powerful piece of art stands. It has become not just an attraction for locals and tourists alike, but a symbol of the island’s cultural and historical roots and identity, and as a testimony to its rich heritage.

The black bull is capturing not only the hearts of the islanders and visitors, but the spirit of La Digue’s traditions. Bulls, particularly oxen, hold cultural and historical relevance on the island as they were used to pull ox-carts on La Digue. Ox-cart was once the main form of transportation on the island aside from bicycles.
